Peter B. Collins
Radio and Broadcast Producer

Peter B. Collins has deep experience on all sides of media: he has produced and hosted a variety of radio and TV programs, developed syndicated programs, and served as a program director. He has written, voiced, and produced thousands of commercials, and applies his skills to select political campaigns. His expertise includes low-cost radio and cable TV campaigns, paid political programs for radio and TV, and innovative use of the internet in conjunction with other media. Peter B. is a national specialist on the options available only to federal candidates, and has advised campaigns for governor, senate, house, state and local candidates and initiatives, and independent expenditure media campaigns.  As an owner of KRXA-AM in Monterey, he understands media from the inside out.  Has has placed more than $9 million in media buys in recent years.

For paid media campaigns for candidates, Peter often relies on three powerful devices: biography, validation, and humor.  Usually, one of the most important objectives is to define the candidate in her/his terms, before the opponent can do the defining.  Validation of the candidate and campaign is vital, and best delivered by real people, not other elected officials.  Humor is the crowbar that pries open closed minds, and we’ve won campaigns with messages that first made the voter smile or laugh.

For federal candidates, paid programs on TV, cable and radio offer cost-effective, high-impact platforms that are not controlled by a hostile moderator or producer.  Programs are particularly useful to showcase the candidate’s attributes and positions on the issues in more than sound bites.  Programs can be combined with the 30-second spots to generate more reach and frequency, especially among likely voters.

Peter has recently tested video ads placed on targeted, high traffic web sites with precise geographic delivery.  In the post-election analysis, he gleaned some insights into the behaviors of people who vote by mail and late deciders, which he is sharing with Green Dog clients.
