FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 2010 – GreenDog Victories: 2010 |
||
Susan Adams had squeaked to a victory in her first race with GreenDog's help, pithy mail and hard hitting TV, focusing on saving the sensitive Baylands along Highway 101. From a razor thin win in the primary against the third place candidate, she nosed ahead of the favorite to win on her message of health, the environment and quality of life, all threatened by proposed development and resulting traffic jams. That was 2002. In 2006, she was unopposed. Then from out of the past came former Assembly woman and State Secretary of Education, turned lobbyist Kerry Mazzoni. Mazzoni waged war against the County budget, high pensions and a newly minted plan for "Marin Clean Energ" a local energy program bitterly fought by corporate utility giant PG and E. While claiming to be free from PG and E's influence, Mazzoni was never able to shake the impression she was too close to industry and development interests. She touted her former educational credentials, prompting strong Union sponsored negative mailers highlighting her lobbying activities on behalf of scandal ridden charter schools. Our campaign did one comparison piece asking who do they work for? Corporate interests or our interests? Showing that Susan works for us, while Mazzoni is cozy with major corporate interests, at least by association, as her lobbying firm is connected with energy, pharmaceutical and insurance companies.
On election night a mere 500 votes separated the candidate, but as late absentee voters trickled in (mirroring poll voters who had given Susan their approval), Susanís lead grew considerably over the next week or so, giving her a comfortable win for a third term. Contact: Dotty LeMieux founded GreenDog Campaigns in 1998 and has maintained a steady 75% win rate for women, first time and challenger candidates. She also presents training programs in conjunction with National Women’s Political Caucus, the Democratic Party and other activist groups. Her articles have been published in campaign magazines and online, and she recently presented a nationally broadcast “Webinar” for Winning Campaigns Magazine on the subject of negative campaigning.
